The Most Popular Smoothie Flavors In Each State
Happy National Smoothie Day! Each year on June 21 we celebrate these delicious, nutritious blended drinks that have become hugely popular. Smoothies have come a long way from simple fruit blends to nutrient-dense blended drinks with many possibilities.
Packed full of flavor, smoothies have gained immense popularity in most diets. But they are not just delicious; they are full of nutrients. In this light, Licensed Nutritionist Melissa Schuster says, "Smoothies are a great way to incorporate a variety of nutrients for a healthy meal or a snack. When building your smoothie, it's important to include protein, fat, and fiber to balance the sugar naturally found in fruits. Add a healthy fat such as nut butter, nuts, seeds, or avocado to make the smoothie well-rounded, balanced, and satisfying."

Banana Smoothie - The Nation’s Favorite
Banana smoothies are one of America's favorites, dominating in 33 states. The success of this classic comes from the creamy base it provides, its natural sweetness, and its ease of blending. Bananas go well with most fruits, yogurt, and even nut butter to add a good consistency to your smoothie bowl recipes.
- Acai Smoothies: Florida, Georgia, Mississippi. Acai berries, high in antioxidants, make a refreshing and nutrient-rich drink for the hot, southern sun.
- Green Smoothies: Popular in Vermont, Virginia, and Wisconsin. These smoothies are made with spinach or kale combined with other fruits; it is usually what health-conscious smoothie drinkers go for when they want something very nutrient-dense.
- Mango Smoothies: Most popular in the District of Columbia, Hawaii, and Oregon. Mangoes offer a tropical flair with their sweet, tangy flavor.
- Mixed Berry Smoothies: Utah takes the lead with mixed berry smoothies as the favorite, illustrating a preference for a combination of healthful berries abundant in vitamins and antioxidants.
- Orange Smoothies: Probably the top pick of North Dakota due to the invigorating flavor that oranges bring, making them perfect for a choice of a revitalizing drink.
- Peach Smoothies: Idaho loves peach smoothies; not only are they sweet and tasty, but they also contain nutrition with vitamins A and C.
- Blueberry Smoothies: In Alaska, blueberry smoothies are the favorite because blueberries are very rich in antioxidants and vitamins, making this choice both delicious and nutritious.
- Strawberry Smoothies: West Virginia prefers strawberry smoothies. Strawberries are a great source of vitamin C and manganese, and they add a beautiful color and refreshing taste to any smoothie.
Fun Facts about Smoothies
Smoothies have a history and provide many health benefits.
The idea of combining fruits in this way with other ingredients goes as far back as the time of the ancient Aztecs and Mayans. One of the first ideas for smoothies would have to be the Indian Lassi, a yogurt-based beverage that goes back to 1000 BC?.
Different cultures have their versions of smoothies. In South America, on the other hand, the population has a taste for fruit juice mixtures with exotic fruits. Sharbat, being the Iranian's favorite, is made from fruit or flower petals and served chilled. Moreover, smoothies can also be adapted to special or medical needs. For instance, protein powder and nut butter are optional ingredients. At the same time, avocado may be included as a source of healthy fats to transform a basic smoothie into a meal replacement that will support muscle recovery and satiety.
